“Dense bean salads” are suddenly a thing, and this is one trend with which I can finally get on board—mainly because I’ve been enjoying them for awhile, just without the TikTok buzz. There’s so much to love about including beans and other legumes in a salad: they are economical, versatile, and add satisfying nutrients in a quick, convenient way.

My favorite beans to keep in the pantry are chickpeas, Cannellini beans, and black beans. We also like to stock pinto beans—especially delicious in nachos and tostadas—and red kidney beans for beef or red chicken chili.
